Dual language and two-way immersion programs in the San Joaquin Valley

2012 Dual Language Conference at CSU, Fresno.  Our BCLAD students will be in attendance.

Ann Leavenworth Elementary School

Ann Leavenworth is very proud of its Bilingual Two-Way Immersion Program.  There are two TWI classes in grades kindergarten through 3rd and then one class in grades 4th through 6th.  In the TWI classes, students not only learn to become biliterate and bilingual, but they also gain a comprehensive understanding of both languages cultures and history.

Our district, Livingston Union School District, has a full dual language program at three elementary schools, Campus Park K-5, Selma Herndon K-5, Yamato Colony K-5, and at Livingston Middle School.

Opprotunities for interactive bilingual collaboration during both indoor and outdoor activities. Students work with both English and Spanish Language Models. Closing circle activities alternates Spanish and English daily.

Dutcher Middle School

7-8 Two-Way Immersion since 2000

DMS provides a continuation of the TWI program at Osborn Elementary School.  Our Immersion students attend 2 periods of English Language Arts, 1 period of Spanish Language Arts and 1 period of History taught in Spanish.  Math, Science and PE are taught in English.  Our goal is to prepare our students for the rigor of advance Spanish classes in high school.

Elim Elementary School's 90/10 Dual Langauge Program was launched in the 2002-3 School year with a K-1st Combo. Our original 1st grade students are now in the 10th grade.

The First Two Way Immersion Charter School for the Delano Union School District Nueva Vista Language Academy is a growing program with Dual Language options now in K-2nd grades and will eventually grow to a K-8 TWI option for our local community.

Osborn Two-Way Immersion Academy, a school of choice in the Turlock Unified School District, is home to a kindergarten through sixth grade 90:10 two-way bilingual immersion program. The program ensures learners achieve linguistic and academic excellence while fostering positive cross-cultural understanding. Osborn students continue to Dutcher Middle School for 7th and 8th grade.

Santa Fe Elementary Dual Language Academy is a two-way immersion school within the Porterville Unified School District. Santa Fe’s Two Way Language Immersion program offers students the unique and exciting opportunity to read, write, and communicate naturally in both Spanish and English. Dual immersion produces bilingual, biliterate students, by immersing them in a second language, when their young minds have the greatest aptitude for language development.

Sunset Elementary School

Sunset Two Way Immersion Charter School is one of three Dual Immersion schools in Fresno Unified. Sunset serves students in grades Pre K – 8th  and is solely a Two Way School with no English only classrooms. Our program is a 90-10 model that serves children from eight neighboring school districts that include Carruthers, Central, Clovis, Kerman, Kingsburg, Lemoore, Riverdale, Sanger, Selma, and Washington Union.  

Voorhies Elementary School

The Dual Immersion Program, provides an immersion model for English- speaking students and a bilingual model for Spanish-speaking students.  The goal of the program is to promote fluency and comprehension in both Spanish and English for all participating students.  Our program is committed to develop literacy in both languages.
